I recently entered 2 photographs in the 2025 Ottawa County Arts Trust Exhibition and am happy to report both were accepted.

Ottawa County and the Holland Area Arts Council joined forces in 2018 to establish the Ottawa County Art Trust. This partnership opened up the door to a network of local talent, enabling the County to showcase and build a collection of works by local artists to display for future generations.

Artist Statement: I like to start my mornings slow. Sipping a creamed coffee and staring out my eastward-facing slider in contemplation and anticipation. This winter day the sun was barely above the treeline as it glistened against the 2-3 inch thick icicles hanging off the sunroom roof. Its beauty captivated me. I had to memorialize this serene moment. So off I went to grab my camera. And after capturing many angles, I finalized this macro view as my “Winter Wonderland.”

Artist Statement: Once again, I started my morning slow as I sipped on my creamed coffee, gazing eastward from my sunroom, enjoying the warmer, yet still cool spring air. I love this eastward view, bringing a new perspective each season. We had a mild winter (for Michigan), but a late and windy spring. Flowers and trees were now “Budding.” And it enchants me each time — seeing the transition of one season into the next. As I get older, it seems I’m more willing to slow down and observe what nature has to show. Maybe that’s part of the seasons of life, transitioning from the speedy race to a slowing pace. Learning to appreciate the here and now instead of running toward a final destination. At least that has been the case for me. It’s quite amazing, that in only a matter of weeks, this once bare tree, budded deep pink, and then became a tree full of lush green. Oh, what a transformation — showing humanity the beauty that creation (including you and me) is capable of.
