In May I entered 2 photographs in the Newaygo County Council for the Arts 2025 Statewide Photography Competition and am honored that both were accepted.
“Our goal for this show is to exhibit and acknowledge the finest photographers in the state of Michigan and encourage greater growth and achievement in the photographic community. This is a juried competition and this year the juror is local photographer Richard Hinton. Selected works will be exhibited through July 12, 2025.”

Title: Solitude
Size: 12 x 18”
Medium: Luster Print
Artist Statement: Butterflies captivate me – their coloring, their fluttering, their elegance. Yet their lifespan is so short. And in that time they play such a crucial role for the livelihood of our planet, our ecosystem, our very existence.
Much of their time is spent in Solitude, just spreading their beauty in their naturally gifted way. It serves as a reminder to me of the beauty innate in us all. Tho often times we must quiet ourselves from the rush of life to fully understand and appreciate this truth.
Even in the midst of The Gathering of peers, butterflies seem to have perfected what I call the tri-unity of life – solitude, stillness, silence. Balancing these acts of conservation amidst acts of togetherness. This union allowing them to move with grace and freedom, true to their authentic self. The uniqueness of each one complementing the uniqueness of all the others. Such a tiny and short-lived aspect of life reminding us of creation’s glory.
