Grace is the union
of two becoming one,
compassion and discipline
bright like the sun.
Stand in alignment
be warmed and well lit; or
choose to go wayward
and you will get bit
by the snakes and the vipers
in the fires of hell
but mercy will find you
and all will be well.
When you choose to be humble
turning back toward home,
the path may be long,
but you’re never alone.
You get what you give;
you give what you get.
Join back as One
to have no regret.
Your slate washed clean
embrace a new start
a gift from the Father
written on your heart.
For he who stayed home
yet recognized not
his heart was enslaved
entangled and caught.
With the return of his brother
his envy grew green;
he showed his true colors
passive-aggressively mean.
“I’ve labored endlessly Father
yet no party in my name,
and now the one who has squandered
is back with no shame!”
“My son, my son
miles away is your heart,
all that is mine is yours
but with hardness, you too, did part.
All this abundance
has always been yours,
but your enslaved mind
focused only on chores.
No time for joy
no time for rest
look around, my son,
at all you have missed.
When you choose to be humble
turning back toward home
you’ll have eyes to see
it was yours all along.”
The young man stood there,
reasoning for sense,
“what is this grace that can cover
both mine and my brothers’ offense?”
The door remained open
the celebration inside
a party for anyone
who follows humility as guide.
