The Way

John 10:10

“I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”

– Jesus, the Christ

The Way

Some come to the cross gently.
Some stumble over it along their way.
“Now is the beginning of understanding,”
the Voice within did say.

“Pick up your cross and carry on,
no longer a wayward son.
When I said ‘it is finished,’ I meant it;
all has already been done.”

“But life unfolds in time and space
your real journey is about to start.
This is The Way, walk in it,
align the mind and the heart.”

“You’ll grow deeper in revelation
becoming aware of what is true;
Oneness will be your driving force
the abundant life is meant for you.”

“The path doesn’t end at the cross,
this is where the new man is born.
The tomb that buries the old becomes
the womb for the child adorned.”

“Spirit newly birthed
allow it to manifest;
fullness bursting forth
creation at its best.”

This is the path of gold,
like transparent glass;
the New Jerusalem is here on earth
when in God I do rest.

It’s from this peaceful state
love freely over flows;
creating a life of joy,
everywhere I Am, I’m home.

As I pondered the lack of joy and happiness I saw in Christians around me, I wondered “why?” After all, Christians should be the happiest people on earth. As I sought the answer to this mystery it came to me that Christians often get stuck at the cross of life’s journey, focusing on Jesus coming to earth to pay the price for their sin, but then stopping there. Focusing on his death, and spending the rest of their lives confessing their sins, asking forgiveness, consuming themselves with guilt, though thankful to him for paying our price. I went to various churches and saw the cross upright as a reminder of this sacrifice. Yet too often never moving past that.

My sculpture has the cross laying down because they had to take it down to remove his body. And this is what brought about the resurrection. It is in his resurrection, exiting the tomb, that we have eternal life. A road that leads to the Father, the Creator, the Giver of All. We get the gift of the Holy Spirit, not by standing at the cross, but after we accept his gift and move forward into this new life.

For me, being a Christian means we see the cross and move past it, to the path of greater revelation. Oneness with the Father, walking the streets paved with gold.

When I saw and experienced Stu’s sculpture in the initial stages, it struck a chord. God had been revealing over the previous few years how often we die to the old self, but stay in the grave instead of journeying out and beyond, into the light of the resurrection. The abundant life is our inheritance as children of God.

God brings each of us to this awareness in our own time and in our own way. Giving us choice, over and over again. Each step of every day, God says “I place before you life and death, choose life.” And Jesus came to be our example. He was divine wholeness manifest. And his prayer for us was that we may be One with the Father, as he and the Father were One.

Stu’s sculpture reminds me that there are streets of gold for us to walk here on this earth and in doing so we bring Heaven down.

Will you walk “The Way?”

Revelation 21:21b

“The great street of the city was of pure gold, like transparent glass.”
