~ artwork ~

I have found releasing emotion through creativity to be a great way of sorting through life in a purposeful way. Whether it be what I’m facing personally or what I’m observing as I watch and engage with others.
Signal is one of two mixed media poetic artworks entered into the Ottawa County Art Trust 2024 Exhibition; both were selected for inclusion. See the other artwork, Face-to-Face, by clicking its title.
Signal
stop light
yield light
go light
shine bright
day and night
to continue
to slow
to stop
emotions within
a tool for the soul
changing not
out of timely routine
but with varying situation
and circumstance
learning how
to read the signal
empowers and transforms
the man, internal
as a traffic light promotes
a beneficial flow
so, too, the emotions
of the soul
Artist Statement
Signal was inspired as I approached a yellow light turning red.
I waited in silence, with the window down, enjoying the spring weather. Looking around, thoughts danced through my mind.
The pedestrian crosswalk icon was lit bright white signaling walkers are safe to cross the street.
Looking back toward the red light, I began pondering how similar our emotions are—just here as a tool, helping to guide us to our desired destination with the safest travels possible.

Psalm 46
“… be still, and know that I Am God …”
